I was looking for a jacket that could pull some serious triple duty: Enough utility for everyday wear, a professional appearance that fits into a business environment, and the durability to withstand hiking and scrambling. The Pouration does all of this very well, and has become my go-to in all but the most technical of uses.I am 5'11" tall, weigh 180 pounds, fit 42 inches in the shoulders and 33 inches in the waist. I typically have problems with Medium sizes being too tight in the shoulders, but Large sizes being too loose in the waist and sleeves. The Large Pouration fits very well. It has a cinch cord to tailor in the waist, and the sleeves are a good length that sit right at the base of my wrists. For everyday wear the jacket keeps up well. The breast pocket is plenty roomy enough for my Nexus 6P in a case and the hand pockets are comfortable with smooth zippers. Zipper pulls on all three make them easy to access, even with gloves on. I would prefer an inner pocket or two, just as extra space when needed, but it's not a deal breaker. For business environments, the Pouration fits in very nicely. The material is matte with only a very slight sheen, and most importantly *stays quiet*. Most of the typical crinkling and "nylon swish" noise is gone. I wouldn't go backpacking with the black color, of course, but for casual and business environments it fits right in. I chose the Pouration because I wanted to be able to stow away the hood when it wasn't being used. This only marginally works: The collar only has a few Velcro points to close over the hood, which allows it to unroll slightly inside the collar and puff out. I think this will probably become less of a problem with time, though it would be nice to see some toggles or snaps to keep the hood rolled tightly. For hiking and scrambling the jacket truly excels. I had contacted Columbia Sportswear before placing my order because I was concerned the fabric would be too light-weight to withstand serious active use. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. The material feels a lot like good, camping tent material: Light enough to breathe and carry well, but heavy enough to stand up against rain and contact. I've worn this jacket several times while grooming hiking trails and scrambling up mountains and run into zero problems with thorns, branches, rocks, or gravel.Overall I would strongly recommend the Columbia Sportswear Pouration jacket. It looks good, functions well, and will certainly last a long time. The company is reputable and the jacket is an excellent value.
